Our Future

Future hero

Advocacy is never one-and-done — it demands vision, persistence, and vigilance. Hard-won rights can be challenged, undermined, or rolled back. Lasting change requires both laying the groundwork today and staying engaged to protect and expand progress. Transforming global systems, shaping policy, and driving action all require strategy and sustained commitment. As always, we focus on what must be done now while pushing toward the just future we know is possible.

Visions of the Future

Amidst the global negotiations on climate change in 2024, we asked attendees to share their visions for the future. We are inspired by the inclusive nature of their visions and eager to continue our work to create a gender-just environment and economy that serves everyone while preserving the health of our planet.

Shaping Our Future

    • 01
    The World We Want

We imagine a world where people and the planet thrive — where economies are built on care, not extraction, where communities control their own energy, food, and water systems, and where justice, equality, and collective well-being guide every decision. A future where those most impacted by crisis are the ones leading the solutions, and where power is redistributed to build societies rooted in dignity, sustainability, and freedom from violence.

    Pathways to Progress

    Shaping Change

We don’t just demand change — we work to make it happen. Our advocacy challenges the root causes of the climate and environmental crises, pushing for policies that prioritize justice, care, and real solutions for those most impacted.

To shift power and drive systemic change, we take on the forces that stand in the way —  corporate influence over global decision-making, rising militarization, or attacks on gender equality and human rights. Through direct policy engagement, strategic campaigns, and movement-building, we ensure climate action is bold, inclusive, and accountable.

But advocacy is only as strong as the people behind it. That’s why we invest in leadership, growing a powerful, connected network of advocates. From travel support for frontline leaders to collective tools and trainings, we make sure movements have what they need to push for real, lasting impact.

    Building Power

Real change happens when movements work together. That’s why WEDO brings people and organizations together — across issues, sectors, and borders — to build a more powerful, united front for climate justice.

Through networks like the SRHR & Climate Justice Coalition and the Gender and Environment Data Alliance, and as a key voice in the Women and Gender Constituency, we help break down silos, align strategies, and amplify solutions that challenge business-as-usual. This kind of cross-movement collaboration has already driven historic wins, like securing a global fund for loss and damage at COP27.

Change isn’t just about responding to the moment — it’s about shaping the future. By fostering a strong, well-connected advocacy ecosystem, we help ensure movements don’t just fight back but set the agenda, driving the bold, systemic change our world urgently needs.

    Resourcing Action

A just transition needs resources. Too much climate finance is locked behind inaccessible systems — failing to reach the communities driving real solutions. We push for finance that supports people — ensuring resources flow directly to those creating solutions for food, water, and renewable energy access while advancing gender equality.

Scaling local solutions requires transforming the larger financial system challenging unjust tax, trade, and debt structures that perpetuate inequality and concentrate wealth at the top. Through advocacy, media, and evidence-based campaigning, we’re pushing for a global financial system that invests in people and the planet.

By quadrupling our Gender Just Climate Solutions Scale Fund to $1 million annually, we’ll help more frontline solutions scale while pushing for broader financial reforms. From local solar cooperatives to care infrastructure, we’re ensuring climate finance serves the communities leading the way.

    Knowledge & Data

The fight for climate justice is also a fight over information — who controls it, how it’s used, and whose voices shape the solutions — data wielded to maintain the status quo and reinforce systems that prioritize profit over people. The well-resourced anti-gender, anti-rights, and fossil fuel interests thrive on misinformation and false choices.

To fight these forces, we are building a data ecosystem that reflects the realities of frontline communities. Through initiatives like the Gender and Environment Data Alliance and the Gender Climate Tracker, we are fueling stronger advocacy, shifting policies, ensuring that financial and planning decisions center justice, and amplifying the expertise of people traditionally excluded from decision-making spaces.

Over the next five years, we will accelerate investment in gender-just climate solutions, counter corporate greenwashing, and expose policies that put people and the planet at risk — shifting power toward the movements building a truly just future.
